Sheriff's Citizen Academy
RCSO Fourth Annual Citizen Academy Announced!
This year’s academy will begin September 9th and end October 28th. Classes will be held every Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Applications can be sent by e-mail to Captain Robbie Taylor, left at the office in the courthouse or mailed to Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Attn: Robbie Taylor, 1 Court Street, Rockingham, NC 28379.
This year's academy is limited to 25 people. After applications are received and if accepted, applicants will be contacted for an interview before a background check is made and final acceptance.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office hosts an annual citizen’s academy. The purpose of the academy is to help educate the public about all the tasks the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the judicial system are responsible for. The academy is 8 weeks long and meets on Tuesday nights. The academy is limited to 20-25 citizens. Each applicant must undergo a background investigation. Qualified applicants will be accepted into the academy. The academy consists of presentations by members of the Sheriff’s Office and the Richmond County Judicial system. Presentations include the district attorney, magistrates, judges, Special Response Team, criminal investigation division, K-9 division, civil division, and Drug Unit. After attending the program applicants are eligible for a ride-along with Sheriff’s Office deputies. Applicants attending will receive several souvenirs of their attendance. Pictures of the three previous academies can be viewed on the website. The next Sheriff’s Office Citizen Academy will be held in the fall of 2008. The completed application can be emailed or mailed to Captain Robbie Taylor at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
