Sheriff Dale B. Furr



Sheriff Furr graduated from Rockingham High School in 1964. After high school he joined the United States Navy from 1964-1968. While part of the United States Navy he spent eleven months in Vietnam.

After leaving the Navy Sheriff Furr attended the 35th Recruit School in November 1970 and was assigned to the uniform patrol division of the Charlotte Police Department in March 1971. In December of 1972 he was assigned to the tactical operations bureau division of the Charlotte Police Department. He worked at the Charlotte Police Department until 1979. During this time he worked in several different capacities including training officer, patrol officer, investigator, and vice and narcotics.

In 1979 he was hired as a Richmond County Deputy as a Sergeant. In 1982 he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Detective Division. In 1985 he was promoted to Major and in July 1988 he was promoted to Chief Deputy. On December 5, 1994 Dale B. Furr was elected Sheriff of Richmond County.

Sheriff Furr has an A.A.S. degree from Central Piedmont Community College. During his law enforcement career he has attended many in-service training classes and has been awarded several certificates. These include:

Major James E. Clemmons, Jr.



Major Clemmons was hired at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in 1989. He served as a patrol deputy until 1991. In 1991 he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the detective division. In 1997 he was promoted to Lieutenant and promoted to Captain in 1998. On July 7th, 2002 he was promoted to Major.

During his law enforcement career Major Clemmons has served many roles and been part of the Special Response team. Major Clemmons is over the civil division, which takes care of all civil papers and daily operations. In addition, he has been to community police training and has acted as the Community Police Coordinator for the town of Dobbins Heights. During his law enforcement career he has received many awards and certificates. These include:

Major William Bryan Thorpe

Bryan Thorpe was hired at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in 1984. From 1984-1988 he was a patrol deputy. In 1988 he was promoted to Sergeant and moved to the Criminal Investigator division where he worked until 1990. In 1990 he was moved to the Narcotics Investigation unit. In 1991 Bryan became a K-9 handler for the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. In 1997 Bryan was promoted to Lieutenant and promoted again to Captain in 1998. Since that time Bryan has worked as a patrol supervisor until 2005 when he was promoted to Major and assigned as the supervisor to the Criminal Investigations Division, which includes both narcotics, and criminal investigation.

During his law enforcement career Major Thorpe has attended many in-service training classes and has been awarded several certificates. These include:

Captain Robert Lee Taylor, III



Robbie was hired at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in 1998. While working as a patrol deputy Robbie has been assigned to both day shift and night shift duties. While working on the night shift in 2004 he was promoted to Sergeant. In 2005 Robbie was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned to a position regarding training and development of deputies. In 2007 he was promoted to Captain. During his law enforcement career Robbie has acquired a Masters degree from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. In addition, he has attended a considerable amount of in-service training and been awarded several certificates. These include:
